Samurai Shodown Warrior's Rage This FAQ is written and updated by Rob Newton at anuual_gift_man@yahoo.com The latest game in the Sumarai Shodown series. WR has a new look, but manages to create the same Samurai Shodown feel. It now sports 3D characters on 2D backgrounds. The only returning characters are Haomaru and Hanzo. Section 1: The Game Warrior's Rage has four different modes. Story Mode, Attack Mode, Battle Mode, and Gallery Mode. In Story Mode, you pick a character and guide him/her on a quest that follows their story. Every once in awhile you speak with the person before you fight them, and the conversations are either meaningful, hilarious, or just plain retarded. I'll let you figure that out for yourself. Anyway, another thing unique to Story is sometimes when you fight one of four select characters, you fight more than one with the same life bar. Cheap, but they usually go down pretty fast cuz they suck. Lastly, you fight one of 3 bosses depending on who you are playing as. Then you get an ending and watch the credits. In Attack Mode, you pick a character and fight battles to increase their stats. You pick one of three "missions" with ten fights each, gaining points after each fight. The fights are more like missions themselves like "Beat 10 opponents, No Rage Meter, No Life Meter" stuff like that. After beating all three missions you get a new one, Flash Attack. You're guy and another guy face off like a shoot out. Whoever presses a button before the other when the ref says start wins the match. Once everything in Attack Mode is completed, options in Battle Mode are added. Battle Mode is basically VS mode. You pick a guy and decide if he's Player or CPU controlled and do the same for layer 2. You can then choose options like "P1 Half Life" and "No Rage Meter". Gallery Mode is where you look at pictures of every single person to ever appear in a Samurai Shodown game. Evertime you win a fight in Story you get a trading card. You can then use these cards to win pictures from Rimiruru in Gallery Mode. Then you can gasp in wonder with all your little snap-shots. Other things you can do in this game are Options (really) where you still have 1-8 difficulty, not that it makes much of a difference anyway. Movie Mode lets you view movies you've already seen. Memory Card lets you (gasp) work the memory card. Section 2: Playing the Game Warrior's Rage hasn't changed a lot from #4 aside from looks, but nobody has really played #4 anyway so I'll rebrief you. Life Bars: Really cool. Fights are all one round. You have a regular life bar. When it runs out a piece of it is hacked off and it is refilled and you fight again. When that runs out another chunk falls off and it is refilled once again. After that it's 3 strikes and you die. Rage Gauge: Just like the others. Except you can press 3 of the 4 buttons simultaneously and go into Rage Mode. Your power is increased and your defense goes down. How long you remain in this state depends on your life. If it's low, it lasts longer. Also, while in Rage Mode you can press 3 buttons again to dash across the screen and immediately take away one of your opponents life bars. Psycho Slash: While in Rage Mode, with most characters, you can rapidly press a slash button to make your character swing his weapon somewhat fast. Some characters do this better than others, unfortunnately it's usually BLOCKED, but it's great for taking out enemy groups. Tapping on the Sword (Or whatever the hell it's called): This is a move you can do to knock your opponents weapon from their hands and do a little damage. Secret Slice: Every character has one, and they can only be used when you're on your last life bar (gay). Methods of Mathem: For some reason all moves in this game are reffered to as "Method of Mayhem 1, 2, 3, etc. "Throws": Throws are gone except for special "Throw" moves and are replaced by pushing your opponent if they block too much. Section 3: Characters Sure are a lot of them in this game. I refer to them in this manner: Name: Their Name Position: Who's Side They're On Weapon: They're Weapon Unlocked By: If They're a Secret Character, Who You Have to Beat the Game With to Get Them. Plays Like: If a Secret Character, Who's Moves They Have Or Relate to Background: What I Could Piece Together Of Their Background Moves: The Characters most Useful Moves (I've Named some of them to fit what they look like. Playing: What The Play Like Fighting: How To Fight Them Rob's Opinion: My Opinions on Them Seishiro, Kuki Bakufu Government Weapon:Ice Sword (It glows Blue and makes icy noises anyway) Background: Seishiro is recruited by the Bakufu government, but his true motive lies in dealing with his brother Tohma, Kuki who wields the Fire Sword (kinda like those brothers in #4). Other than that his father trained them both. Moves: Ice Slash: | \ ---o Slash Teleports toward opponent and swings sword. o o SwitchBack Ice Slash: | / o--- Slash Teleports back then forward and swings. o o Pressing: | \ ---o Strong Slash During one of the above results in a 2nd swing. o o Ice Moon: ---o | \ Slash Does a standing crescent moon slash. o o Ice Circle: ---o \ | / o--- Slash Swings sword in a circle slowly, if attacked o o o while doing this, he counters. Tapping on the Sword: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Strong Slash o o o Secret Slice: ---o | \ x2 Strong Slash Does a hasty sword combo. o o Playing: Very stationary. Use the switch back slash a lot and don't get cornered because most of his attacks are pretty slow. His psycho slash is crouching slash and is pretty good. Fighting: Tough opponent. Don't stay to close for to long and keep moving or he'll nail you with an Ice Slash. Rob's Opinion: His attempt at being the "hair" guy of the game after Haomaru is laughable, but his gaming kung-fu is exceptional. He got the dominant genes in the family. Tohma, Kuki Razor Trio Weapon: Fire Sword Unlocked By: Seishiro Plays Like: Similar to Seishiro, but not completely alike. Background: As far as I know he beheaded his father and left to join the razor trio. He wants to battle his brother to see who is the better, which he assumes is him. Moves: Fire Dash: | \ ---o Slash Disappears, then reappears and nails opponent with fire sword. o o Heat Gash: o--- | / Slash (close) Sticks sword in opponent's necks, and slits it open. o o Tapping Sword: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Strong o o o Secret Slice: ---o | \ (x2) Strong Sword combo followed by a heat gash. o o Playing: Also stationary, Tohma's a little stronger then his bro. His Fire Dash can be done 3 times fast if you can do the move quickly enough. He can hold his own against most enemies. Fighting: Watch out for his Fire Dashes, which he usually uses when you're jumping so they miss. Stay on him and don't stop moving. Not too tough, but don't let him hit you with his Secret Slice. Rob's Opinion: Looks like he got the recessive genes. I honestly can say either I suck with this guy or he just plain sucks period. I like his style although he copies Kazuya Mishima of Tekken. Haomaru Ronin (Helps Bakufu Government?) Weapon: Last time I checked it was the Fugu Blade Background: Now that he's 47 years old, Hao's hair isn't quite as spazzy as it used to be. Nakoruru is his little fairy and she is guiding him to Oboro, master of the Razor Trio. He's still a ronin (rouge samurai) and still kicks ass as the champion of Samurai Shodown. Moves: Kogetsuzan: ---o | \ Slash Crescent moon slash with up to three hits. o o Thrust: ---o \ | / o--- Slash/Kick Stabs forward, Strong for up, Weak for forward, Kick for down o o o Chop: o--- / | \ ---o Slash Gives a mighty downward chop. o o o Tapping Sword: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Slash o o o Secret Slice: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Kick Makes a Tornado under opponent then nails them with his o o o sword and sends em flying. Playing: A great all around character, Hao is good with his Kogetsuzans. A good technique is to rapidly poke them with weak slash, going up, down, up, up, down, etc. Also, jump in and attack, then do a low attack right after. His standing psycho slash with strong is awesome. Fighting: Sometimes he's easy, sometime's he's hard. Don't jump in to much or he'll smack you with one of his many anti air attacks. Sweeping works good on him too. Rob's Opinion: Haomaru has and always will kick ass. He's my best person in this game, even though his Senpuretsuzan is gone, which really sucks cuz that was his main move. Mikoto Razor Trio Weapon: Cool-Looking sword Unlocked by: Haomaru Plays like: Nobody Background: Haomaru's niece, she has some kind of split personality. A demon and angel are both inside her and are constantly fighting. She is in love with Tohma, and thinks she can change him. Moves: Boomerang: | \ ---o OR ---o \ | Slash Throws sword like boomerang o o o o o o Stab: o--- | / Strong+Dodge or Weak+Kick Stabs opponent, making sky change color. Other o o than that I don't know what this move does. Heal: o--- ---o \ | / o--- Strong+Weak Stabs opponent stealing some life (great move) o o o Tapping Sword: o--- ---o \ | Strong o o Secret Slice: ---o | \ Strong+Weak Moves behind opponent and freezes them. o o Playing: A great all around character, her sword gives her distance, plus she can throw it and fend off jumpers. The Healing move just kicks ass, especially in Survivor mode. Fighting: Not a very hard opponent to beat. Just keep moving and use your strongest attacks. Rob's Opinion: Not only is she a skilled fighter, but she's not bad looking either (for a computer generated woman). Jin-Emon Hanafusa Bakufu Government Weapon: A big trident Background: Jin-Emon is a Samurai, and a pretty damned good one at that. He is devoted to the way of the samurai and seeks to bring down the Razor Trio. Old pals with Jushiro. Has a crush on Saya. Moves: Method of Mayhem 1: | \ ---o Slash o o MoM 2: ---o | \ Slash o o MoM 3: | / o--- Slash o o Tapping Sword: o--- / | \ ---o Weak Slash o o o Secret Slice: o--- ---o \ | Strong+Weak o o Playing: Slow but powerful. He is excellent at distance fighting and anti air. Stationary character without any running moves really. Fighting: Not to tough. Just stay close and wail on him. Sure as hell blocks a lot though. Rob's Opinion: Not a bad character. He fits into the Story good and is another character for someone who misses Kyoshiro. Samurai Bakufu Government Weapon: Naginata (spear) Unlocked by: Jin-Emon Plays Like: A little like Jin-Emon, barely though. Background: Samurai that work for the Bakufu Government. They are extras that can be fought in groups in story mode. No Moves Playing: Slow without many powerful moves, Samurai aren't that good. Fighting: Easy. Very, very easy. Rob's Opinion: Out of the extras, they're second to worst. Good for story line though. Hanzo Hattori Government (Ninjas) Weapon: Ninja Sword (I forget it's name) Background: Leader of the Iga Ninjas, they help the Bakufu Government, but are they're own unit. Moves: Shuriken: | \ ---o Slash (while jumping) Throws a shuriken. o o Shadow Duplicates: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Slash Two Hanzos spin around opponent, will appear on o o o either side depending on which button is used. Shrick Dash: ---o | \ Kick (close) Grabs opponent and leaps into the air, spinning down and o o smashing they're head into the ground. (unblockable) Tapping Sword: o--- ---o \ | Weak+Strong o o Secret Slice: ---o | \ Weak+Strong o o Playing: Not nearly as good as he used to be, Hanzo must be slipping in his old age. Shrike Dash, although not looking as cool anymore, is a good damage move, and shadow duping is still a cool way to trick the opponent. He's pretty slow now, but still good if you know how to use him. Fighting: He shoudln't be too much trouble. He'll try to freeze you with this gay little shuriken attack, but it's doesn't do any damage. Rob's Opinion: What the hell happened? This guy used to be the best character. Now he's gone down to "Only use him if you really know how". Iga Ninjas Government (Ninjas) Weapon: Katana Unlocked By: Hanzo Plays Like: A little like Hanzo Background: The Ninjas that are lead by Hanzo. They are extras that can be fought in groups in Story Mode. No Moves Playing: Slow and weak, they're not very good. However, when in Rage mode they have the fastest Psycho Slash in the game. Good when Pissed off. Fighting: If you are beat by this guy in a 1 on 1 fight you should be smacked. In groups, they might get a lucky shot in. Rob's Opinion: The worst of all the extras. Cool for story line though. Jushiro, Sasaki Resistance Weapon: Half sword, Half gun Background: The Leader of the Resistance. Old Pals with Jin-Emon. Moves: Gun Sheath: | | Slash or Dodge Sheathes sword and it can be fired as a gun with slash. If you o o dodge he whips the sword back out. Cover!: | \ ---o Slash (with sword sheathed) Goes gun happy. >:-) o o Dance!: | / o--- Slash Shoots opponents feet, then slashes. If done when sword is sheathed o o just slashes. Tapping Sword: | \ ---o(x2) Slash o o Secret Slice: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Slash Takes a slash then guns em down. o o o Playing: A good stationary character. His gone lets him keep distance but the opponent will gradually get to him so don't pull any Clint Eastwood sh**. Fighting: He's not to tough, but if he gets you down to your last life bar he'll finish you off with this cheap combo if you're not careful. Rob's Opinion: Although he has this Cool guy, Punk-ass attitude, he backs it up with some resourceful fighting and makes a good leader. Brute Ronin Weapon: No-Dachi (long sword) Unlocked By: Jushiro Plays Like: A little like Jushiro (no gun though) Background: Just some wanderer punk that scratches his ass a lot (no I'm not making this up). They are extras that can be fought in groups in Story Mode. Moves: Butt Smash: ---o+Kick Flies across screen with his glutious maximus sticking out. Playing: He has some nice technique and actually plays like a real character. Fighting: Sometimes he gets a combo going and works you, but he's not that hard. Rob's Opinion: The best of the extras. His standing Strong slash is awesome. Saya Resistance Weapon: Two Blades Background: Captain of the Resistance, she always hangs with Jushiro. Has a slight crush on Jin-Emon. Moves: Boomerang: o--- / | \ ---o Weak Slash Throws her blade like a boomerang. o o o Mincer: | \ ---o Slash Dashes forward, blade spinning, high or low depending on which button o o you pressed. Bladed Circle: ---o o--- ---o Slash Twirls he blades around her. Tapping Sword: o--- / | \ ---o Strong o o o Secret Slice: ---o | \ Strong Does a combo with her blades. (gay) o o Playing: She's pretty fast and she's got some nice offense. Defensively, however, she is weak and should always keep moving. Fighting: Not tough at all. Just waste her with your strongest moves. Rob's Opinion: Not a terrible fighter. She's neccessary for story and has a nice body (for a computer generated woman). Oboro's Amazons Razor Trio (work for) Weapon: Two Blades Unlocked By: Saya Plays Like: A little like Saya. Background: Oboro's trusted warriors. They are extras that can be fought in groups in Story Mode. Rush Kick: ---o+Kick Three jump kicks moving forward (like on the matrix). Playing: Fast, but defensively weak. Rush Kick is a good move though. Fighting: Fast, wait for them to approach you then whack em. They're aren't too tough, but can get annoying. Rob's Opinion: Second best of the extras, they can hold they're own. Plus, they're naked. Rinka Resistance Weapon: Father's sword Background: Fighter for the resistance. Has a stupid little rat that grabs her breast when she wins a fight (seriously). Only character without a secret character to unlock. Moves: Cherry Blossom Uppercut: ---o | \ Slash o o MoM 1: ---o \ | / o--- Kick o o o MoM 2: o--- | / Slash o o Playing: Swift and agile, she's the replacement for Nakoruru. Fighting: She's actually pretty hard if you don't pay attention. She's good with her uppercuts so don't jump in too much. Rob's Opinion: Nice Legs. Yaci Vamp (That's what he gets called anyway, vampire mabye?) Weapon: Nasty Jagged Sword, Poison Dagger Background: A freelancer. His lover's name is Nimano (or something like that). He can poison opponents. Moves: Front-To-Back Slash: | \ ---o Slash or Kick Swings low to high, mid to mid, or high to low. o o Misty Dagger: | / o--- Strong Throws out mist, grabs opponent, and slits his throat. o o Poison Dagger: | / o--- Weak Throws a poison dagger to poison opponent. o o Sharp Dagger: | / o--- Kick (close) Grabs opponents and slits their throat. (unblockable) o o Tapping Sword: o--- ---o \ | / o--- Slash o o o Secret Slice: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Slash o o o Playing: Smoothe and powerful, his defense is his only trouble. Nevertheless he is an outstanding fighter with cool looking moves. Fighting: He can be trouble with his poison daggers. Just hit him fast so he can't recover. Rob's Opinion: Wow, what a cool fighter. Not only does he look cool and have good moves, but he's original too. Mugenji Dangerous Person Weapon: Nasty sword with extra blade at end, Poison dagger Unlocked By: Yaci Plays Like: Yaci Background: Some weirdo that haunts the empty church (or wherever it is that you always fight 5 Amazons for the first time.) Moves are identical to Yaci Playing is identical to Yaci Fighting: He's a little harder than Yaci as he tends to be a little more bloodthirsty. Rob's Opinion: A good replacement for Tam-Tam as he looks like him. Haito Ronin Weapon: Wakazashi (short sword) Background: Orphaned as a child, he has amnesia and he hates everything except freedom. His blood is red. Moves: Geyser Thrust: | \ ---o Slash Weak for one geyser, Strong for two. o o Hasso-Happa: | / o--- Slash Goes psycho, flinging his sword wildly. o o Potion: | | Slash or kick Downs a potion, not sure what it does though. o o Tapping Sword: | | | Slash or Kick o o o Secret Slice: ---o o--- / | \ ---o Kick o o o Playing: This guys one cheap sonofabitch. Rapidly press weak slash for some nice combos, and don't be afraid to use his strong slash cuz he's fast. Plus the Jubei moves are a nice bonus. Fighting: He's pretty hard sometimes, so keep your distance and jump in on him and use some sweeps if you can. Rob's Opinion: He acts like a jerk, he's cheap, and he's a sad excuse to get rid of Jubei. Still, the game needs a mysterious person, plus he's fun to kick the crap out of. Daruma Unknown Weapon: Wakazashi Unlocked By: Haito Plays Like: Haito Background: Old man that is some how connected to Ran Po and his friends. Moves are identical to Haito Playing is identical to Haito Fighting is Identical to Haito Rob's Opinion: Is this Jubei after he got really old, cuz he's got an eye patch and the same moves. He's also cooler than that Haito punk. Garyo "The Whirlwind" One Armed Giant Weapon: Club with dagger inside Background: Big ugly ogre with this little guy that follows him around. In love Mikoto. Moves: MoM 5: ---o \ | / o--- Kick o o o Knife: | / o--- Slash Throws a knife high or mid depending on button. o o Headbutt: ---o \ | / o--- Weak Does a massive headbutt (kinda comical) o o o Tapping Sword: o--- ---o \ | Strong+Weak o o Secret Slice: ---o | \ Strong+Weak (hold for more power) o o Playing: Surprisingly fast for a big ugly thing. He is the obvious replacement of earthquake, and is not too bad. Fighting: Watch out for his massive combos and headbutt. He doesn't block much and can be taken out with air attacks. Rob's Opinion: I'm not an Earthquake fan, but this guy's not quite as ugly as earthquake, so I guess he's ok. Tashon Mao Dangerous Person Weapon: Big Hand (nasty finger nails when he does a Flash attack) Unlocked By: Garyo Plays Like: Garyo Background: ..................what the f......Ok I guess it's the happy mushroom man. He wanders around searching for his pixie, and, to quote Haomaru, "Eats the funny mushrooms." Moves are identical to Garyo Playing: A little faster than Garyo, he can jump higher too. Fighting is identical to Garyo Rob's Opinion: Hmm.... Well he's funner to play as than Garyo, and he's got a nice f***ed up personality. Funny voice to (pilsbury dough boy!) Ran Po Imp Weapon: Big Hammer Background: Trying to free his girlfriend (he's 10) from captivity. Moves: Hover: Strong+Dodge (in air) Hovers in air shortly. Smash: ---o \ | Slash OR | \ ---o Slash (during hover) Smashes with hammer. o o o o Bam-Bam: ---o | \ Slash Smashes with hammer, then jumps up and comes down on o o opponent's head. Wham-Wham: | \ ---o Slash Smashes with hammer, then flips and smashes again. o o Playing: He's got some reach and power with his hammer, and he can use his hovering attacks with ease. A very cheap fighter indeed. Fighting: He'll just stand there and be stupid whilst you continue to beat the hell outta him. Rob's Opinion: I hate this little s***! A horrible replacement for Genan, who was a cool character. Minto Imp Weapon: Big Mushroom Unlocked By: Ran Po Plays Like: Ran Po Background: Ran Po's girlfriend (she's 9 or 10). Moves are identical to Ran Po Playing is identical to Ran Po Fighting is identical to Ran Po Rob's Opinion: Just when you think you can't get more annoying they throw this little thing at you. It's even worse than that Ran Po kid. Oboro Razor Trio Weapon: Two huge swords Background: Leader of the Razor Trio and ruling badass. He's also a moron. Fighting: Now this guy is very hard. I resent that fact of having to fight this guy with the Iga Ninjas. He has plenty of attacks to use against you and he's really hard to hit considering the little f***er's invisible. I recommend blocking, then counter attacking, and when you get the chance use your flash attack. Rob's Opinion: Even though he almost made me rip the controller apart and throw my Playstation out the window, he's a good and pretty original boss. Plus it's funny to watch him fall off that ledge when you kill him. Yuda Death Weapon: No-Dachi Unlocked By: Mikoto Play's Like: Yaci (looks like him too) Background: The dark angel of death that comes alive around Mikoto. Other than that I cannot figure this guy out cuz I never played Samurai Shodown 64. Moves are identical to Yaci (cooler looking) Playing: Yuda is faster and stronger than Yaci and his poison kills faster. Fighting: Just keep jumping him and don't stop moving. Rob's Opinion: Now this guy's a badass. He's one of the coolest looking characters that I've ever seen. Good move set too. Seishiro, Kuno Bakufu Government Weapon: Ice Sword and Fire Sword Unlocked by: Beating the game with everybody Plays Like: Seishiro Background: Seishiro after he kills Tohma and takes his sword. Moves are identical to Seishiro Fire Sword: Supposedly, this is how you get the fire sword out: o--- | / Weak (during weak or strong special) Strong (during strong or weak special) o o Playing is identical to Seishiro Fighting is probably identical to Seishiro Rob's Opinion: Cool because it adds to the storyline nicely. The extra fire sword moves look really sweet too. If you people REALLY want me to put the endings in here, I will, feel free to send me yours too. Section 4: Codes Story Mode: To unlock hidden characters, beat the game with someone and see who you get. To unlock Seishiro, Kuno, beat game with everyone (including secret characters). Attack Mode: To unlock Flash Win Mode, beat all 3 missions. Battle Mode: To unlock hidden options, beat all 3 missions in Attack Mode. Movie: To unlock all movies, beat game with everyone, (including Seishiro, Kuno). Section 5: Credits As of now this is all by Robert Newton.
