Sega Saturn SSRPG

It has been over a year since I first got this game. Frankly speaking,
this could be the worst RPG I've ever played. Well, don't get me
wrong, this is not a bad RPG at all. It's just that among the
list of super famous RPGs I have played(final fantasy series, Grandia,
Arc the Lad and so on), SSRPG just happen to be the worst RPG for
the overall presentation. Even though I think this is not as good
of a RPG compare to others, well the irony is I replayed this game
the most(3 times already).
As I said, this could not be a great RPG, but it's fairly fun and
enjoyable. I remember the time before this game was out, I was
dreaming about the game all the time, I mean I actually dreamt
about the game. You know, dreaming about walking around in
some medieval Japan, with Japanese stlye lamppost and cherry blossom
everywhere. For one thing, this RPG has a different settings than
other RPG for a change. When I first got the game, it didn't turn
out to be what I had expected, but it's not a dissapointment, it's
very satisfying indeed. I actually like the game a lot.
The only biggest flaw in the game is the loading time, going thru
houses or castles take 3-5 seconds to load, and every battle takes
about 7-8 seconds.
Other than the bad loading time, everything is good in the game.
The musics here are great, all of those japanese tune are very nice
to hear and easy listening(no annoying tunes in this game).
The graphics and artwork in the game are nice, especially in
the battle. I was surprised that every different moves or spells that
the character does in the battle, the animation for the moves
have so many frames. Well, this is the only 2D RPG I've ever seen
that has so many animation for the moves and slashing in the
battle.
As you may have already known, the game is based on the fighting
game, Samurai Shodown 1 & 2. For a fighting game, the Samurai
Shodown series consider to have a very deep and involving story
lines in the game. Nevertheless, as for a RPG, it seems rather
dull & plain in the story development. Well, if you are a Samurai
Shodown fans, the characters in the game will be very familiar
to you. Even if you are not a fan, the cast of Samurai Shodown
characters could be rather interesting and 'cool' to you.
Although you need a fair understanding of Japanese in order
to play this game. But hey, if you are a Samurai Shodown fans,
this is a 'must-buy' game! Overall, I would give this game an 8.0
out of 10.
